WE ARE EXCITED TO OFFER AN EVENING VOCAL WORKSHOP AND COMMUNITY SING W/ CELEBRATED BAY-AREA VOCALIST LYDIA VIOLET. LYDIA HAS LED COMMUNITY SINGING ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND WILL GUIDE OUR GROUP AS YOU EMPOWER YOUR VOICE AND SOOTHE YOUR SOUL WITH SONGS FROM RISING APPALACHIA MUSIC, MAMUSE, SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK, AND MORE.

IN THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL LEARN BASIC VOCAL TECHNIQUES TO EMPOWER YOUR VOICE IN COMMUNITY SINGING ENVIRONMENTS. WE WILL WEAVE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN LEARNING VOCAL TECHNIQUE AND COMMUNITY SONGS FROM INTERNATIONAL FOLK AND PROTEST TRADITIONS THAT HAVE BEEN CULTIVATED TO EMPOWER INDIVIDUAL AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE. WE WILL ALSO EXPLORE FINDING HARMONIES IN GROUP SINGING WHILE EXPERIENCING THE THERAPEUTIC ASPECTS OF HARMONY SINGING.

THIS EVENING IS OPEN TO SINGERS OF ALL LEVELS! TOGETHER WE WILL CREATE A KIND ENVIRONMENT OF EXPLORATION AND LEARNING.

Lydia Violet is an accomplished Iranian-American multi-instrumentalist weaving together Southern blues, American roots, and Iranian folk music traditions. In her live band she combines fiddle, banjo, and luscious 3-part harmonies to offer a soul-folk revival experience, participating in a new wave of protest music. In the past year she has collaborated with Climbing PoeTree, Rising Appalachia, and Ayla Nereo. ♬ www.lydiafiddle.com

Lydia also has studied closely with deep ecology elder and Buddhist scholar Joanna Macy for the past 9 years, learning how we can metabolize our pain for the world into energy for resilience, action, and community. She runs The Music As Medicine Project, a non-profit dedicated to creating access to music and music education as tools for cultivating resilient cultures in our communities. www.musicasmedicineproject.org
