THE MODERN UTOPIA

WITH JODI WILLE

Throughout human history, bold and visionary individuals, dissatisfied with the status quo, have formed intentional communities to explore and re-imagine the cosmos and new ways to live. At times these experiments have burned brief and bright, failed spectacularly, or even led to tragedy; yet others have found ways to sustain themselves, quietly thriving for decades, influencing the larger culture in lasting ways. Filmmaker, book publisher and curator Jodi Wille has visited, documented, and published books on intentional communities and alternative spiritual groups for twenty years. Jodi will take us on a curated journey through some of the most distinctive alternative communities in America, with personal stories, historical context, and rare film clips and images from the 1700s to the 1970s to today. She’ll also take us behind closed doors of still-active communities and share personal stories from recent visits to groups in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, and more.

Jodi Wille is an American filmmaker (Director of THE SOURCE FAMILY), book publisher, and curator known for her work exploring American subcultures.
